Dan Sherman founded Foundation First after 25+ years in capital markets, fintech, and software, plus fractional executive roles with regional GCs
The gap he kept seeing wasn’t talent, it was organization. Good GCs lose jobs not because they can’t build, but because they can’t run a reimbursement model, front costs, or produce the paperwork a lender needs on schedule. Investors squeezed on margin in a tight flip market end up cycling through contractors, re-vetting and re-onboarding every time one falls through, an opportunity cost that never shows up on a line item but shows up in every delay. Lenders sit downstream of both problems, needing a clean file from a borrower whose contractor may not be equipped to produce one.
Before construction, Dan spent years in fintech and cybersecurity, where handling financial and personal data responsibly wasn’t optional, that discipline now shapes how every project’s records are managed. Foundation First exists to close that gap: we bring organization and paperwork discipline to talented GCs who don’t have it in-house, and a consistent, vetted execution partner to investors who are tired of starting over every time a contractor doesn’t work out.

Our Partners
All licensed construction and trade work is performed by licensed GC and trade partners. Insurance claims are handled by a licensed public adjuster partner. For services that don’t require a contractor’s license, painting, power washing, and similar small-scope trade work, we also work with qualified, insured providers who meet our standards.
